Next Next post: For the 99 per cent We are all constructs of our environment. As babies we are guided into what is right and wrong, put through schools which then put you into areas of development, and with the influence of  family and peers we eventually end up into our own vocation.Somehow this constant programming leads to a society of individuals who are all aspiring or trying to do better in their fields. And all things are not equal , so that some with greater opportunities and luck tend to do better and better, until somebody beats them. What is the point, and what is this doing to a fairer Society, where what is valued is not the doing better but a more congenial society?. We get alpha males, high octane, who may do amazing things, but what has more value?  Is it not that progress should only be distributed for those in most need. In the seventies, it is estimated that the worlds wealth was controlled by about ten per cent of the world’s population. It’s now one per cent, and the monies from the recent banking crisis and quantitative easing has mostly ended in these hands…almost all the 340 Billion in the UK alone. At this rate is it ever going to get better for the 99 per cent? Darwinism has in effect become our enemy.Clearly this debate can also be personal, and if one is  trying to aspire and improve oneself, why  not enjoy the fruits? To me the solution seems to be increased taxation and recognition for those that do more for Society. In effect, change the ultimate prize.  Mazlov’s theory of hierarchy, after all is, is still a theory, and there is no reason why wealth cannot be replaced by recognition. The challenge is therefore to manage the inherent desires we all have, and the ‘constructs’ need to work to benefit as many as possible. And not use these desires for personal means via greed, and miserliness.History proves that wealth beyond a certain level is just academic, and does not bring happiness. And then for the haves, if they do not have more, they get frustrated and angry, and mired in that they can do more and more damage but to who? The 99 per cent! Possibly to those in the lowest rungs of living, broken backs, starvation etc. And children, elderly and disadvantaged. Is this the extent of our civilisation In the 21st Century? Or the makings of a broken society? For those in advanced economies, the demographic shift has created an increasingly elderly society with the needs of added care, but closed doors, to those ‘hungry cares’ from places far away. Policy makers keep designing systems that require systems for those left to to do more and more, possibly driven by an expecting society or politicians grappling for votes. The answers are thought leadership that has a holistic approach from cradle to grave and to what end. And babies to grow and taught to be part of of the overall good.
