Job Description

FAA-Certificated A&P Mechanic

FlyBright Pilot Academy | Punta Gorda, FL (KPGD)
$28–$40 per hour, depending on experience
Full-time, part-time, and flexible schedules considered

FlyBright Pilot Academy is seeking an experienced A&P Mechanic to help keep our high-utilization piston training fleet safe, airworthy, and available for flight operations.

We are specifically looking for a dependable mechanic who can take ownership of assigned aircraft and routine maintenance projects, perform thorough inspections and repairs, work independently with limited supervision, and recognize when a discrepancy requires additional technical support or coordination with the Director of Maintenance.

This hands-on position reports to the Director of Maintenance. Our fleet includes Piper PA-28 and PA-44 aircraft, as well as aircraft powered by the Rotax 912 ULS. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced flight-training environment where safety, accuracy, documentation, efficiency, and aircraft availability all matter. Single-engine aircraft are year 2025 or newer, and multi-engine aircraft are year 2018 or newer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections, including 50-hour and 100-hour inspections, within certificate privileges.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct aircraft discrepancies.
  • Perform routine piston-aircraft maintenance including oil changes, tire and brake replacement, spark plug servicing, lubrication, component replacement, and other scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Research Airworthiness Directives, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, and other applicable maintenance requirements; determine applicability to assigned aircraft or components; and accurately document findings and required actions.
  • Complete maintenance records, inspection documentation, logbook entries, and return-to-service documentation accurately and in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Identify parts, materials, and tooling requirements early and communicate needs before they create avoidable aircraft downtime.
  • Communicate maintenance findings, progress, complications, and aircraft status clearly with the Director of Maintenance.
  • Coordinate with our maintenance administrator on parts, records, scheduling, and maintenance status.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Contribute to shared shop responsibilities, including aircraft washing, tool and parts organization, hangar cleaning, and general facility upkeep.
  • Support a professional maintenance culture built around safety, accountability, teamwork, productivity, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.
  • Practical piston-aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Ability to safely and accurately complete routine maintenance with limited supervision.
  • Ability to research and apply applicable maintenance manuals, Airworthiness Directives, service information, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong maintenance documentation and recordkeeping skills.
  • Dependability and ability to take assigned work through completion.
  • Effective communication with the Director of Maintenance, maintenance administrator, and other members of the operation.

Preferred:

  • Experience independently completing 100-hour inspections.
  • Familiarity with Piper PA-28 aircraft.
  • Familiarity with Piper PA-44 Seminoles.
  • Rotax 912 ULS experience.
  • Strong piston-engine troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in a flight-school or other high-utilization piston fleet.
  • Inspection Authorization is a plus but is not required.

Mechanics are expected to wear professional, properly fitted work attire appropriate for safely working around aircraft, tools, and equipment.

Candidates must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing, and working in and around aircraft and hangar equipment.

Schedule & Compensation

We are open to full-time, part-time, or flexible scheduling arrangements for the right candidate.

Compensation ranges from $28 to $40 per hour , based on experience, qualifications, piston-aircraft knowledge, troubleshooting ability, and demonstrated ability to work independently.

Paid time off and additional benefits may be available depending on employment status and eligibility.

We value mechanics who take pride in safe, thorough work and understand that quality maintenance directly supports student safety and aircraft availability.

FlyBright provides administrative support for parts, maintenance records, scheduling, and shop coordination so our mechanics can remain focused on maintaining the fleet, minimizing downtime, and safely returning aircraft to service.
